Amid weeks of rumors, Sony Pictures has issued a press release announcing that Emma Stone will be joining the cast of the upcoming "Spider-Man" film. Stone will be playing the part of Gwen Stacy, not the part of Mary Jane Watson, as previously assumed.

Stone joins Andrew Garfield, who is playing the part of Peter Parker, in the Sony reboot. In this story, Gwen Stacy will be Parker's love interest.
