Christian Slater Joins Cast of "Rites of Passage"

According to Variety, Christian Slater has joined the cast of the upcoming indie thriller, "Rites of Passage". The film is being directed by screenwriter Peter Iliff of "Point Break" and "Patriot Games" fame.

Joining Slater in the film will be Stephen Dorff, Wes Bentley and Kate Maberly. It will feature the life of an anthropology buff, who finds himself an outcast in a world of hard-partying. He takes a few friends out to his family's abandoned ranch for some R&R, where he finds his brother living in his own world of drugs and Chumash Indian rituals.  Christian Slater will be playing that brother.

Iliff commented on the plot of the film, saying, "The stressed-out, hard-partying, 'hook-up' student culture I see today stirs up a lifestyle reminiscent of the decline and fall of Western civilization. When I decided to make the transition to directing, I wrote a script that was location specific, made a little iMovie, and used it as a vehicle to attract private investors. And it worked."

The film will be produced by Mark Canton, Jonathan Sachar, David Hopwood and W.D. Johnson for Johnson's compnay, Demerest Films.
