Ron Howard and Showtime Developing Aztec Drama

Showtime is currently developing a new series, "Conquest", with Ron Howard.  The new period drama will tell the story of Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortes, whose conquest brought the Spanish to Mexico.

The show will feature Cortes' clash with Moctezuma II, the last ruler of the Aztec Empire.  The show is being described as "a classic war story about two powerful men and their people ultimately leading to the destruction of the Aztec culture and the men themselves."

Ron Howard has been interested in doing a project like this for some time, with thoughts in the beginning of making a feature film. Howard will executive produce along with Brian Grazer, Jose Rivera and Imagine TV president Francie Calfo. Mexico City born Hans Beimler, writer for "Star Trek", will serve as a consultant on the film.
