The BAFTA Film Awards have disclosed the longlists for 24 categories this year, with Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," and Martin Scorsese's "Killers Of The Flower Moon" leading the pack, each garnering 15 longlist nods. These acclaimed films feature prominently in categories such as best film, director, and screenplay-Killers and Oppenheimer in adapted screenplay, while Barbie occupies the original screenplay category. This impressive feat matches the record set by Edward Berger's war feature "All Quiet on the Western Front" last year.

In pursuit of the frontrunners are Yorgos Lanthimos's "Poor Things" with 14 nods and Bradley Cooper's "Maestro" with 12, both securing longlist mentions across best film, cinematography, director, and screenplay categories.

Noteworthy mentions on the list include Emerald Fennell's "Saltburn," a high society drama with 11 nods, and Andrew Haigh's mysterious drama "All of Us Strangers," earning ten longlist mentions, including best film and two supporting actor nods for Paul Mescal and Jamie Bell. Jonathan Glazer's innovative holocaust drama "The Zone of Interest" also stands out with ten mentions, while Celine Song's debut feature "Past Lives" captures six, including a nod for best film. The most notable international entry is Justine Triet's "Anatomy of a Fall," receiving seven nods, including director and original screenplay. A surprising standout is Warner's festive reboot "Wonka," starring Timothée Chalamet, securing eight mentions.

This year's leading films demonstrate strength in the acting categories, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan, and George MacKay vying for leading actor, alongside Sandra Hüller, who earned nominations in both leading and supporting actress categories. Mia McKenna-Bruce, breakout star of "How to Have Sex," is nominated for leading actress, and the film's director, Molly Manning Walker, makes the best director longlist. Notable omissions include Michael Mann's "Ferrari" and Ridley Scott's "Napoleon," predominantly recognized in technical categories. David Fincher's latest Netflix feature, "The Killer," secures a single nod in adapted screenplay. Films such as Ava DuVernay's "Origin," as well as "Priscilla" and "May December," receive limited mentions, and Wes Anderson's ensemble comedy "Asteroid City" is notably absent from the acting categories.

Similar to last year, the longlist reflects positive strides in racial and gender diversity across all categories, featuring actors like Jeffrey Wright, Colman Domingo, Teo Yoo, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Fantasia Barrino, and Vivian Oparah. Observers anticipate the final nominations, set to be announced on January 18, to maintain this inclusive trend. The concluding voting round to determine the winners occurs from January 19 to February 13, leading up to the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on February 18.
