The Fast and Furious franchise is a juggernaut in the entertainment world, and now the franchise is set for a reinvention - an all-female cast.
Vin Diesel announced via Instagram that he and his producing partner Samantha Vincent are currently in development of a spinoff film that would feature female cast members from the franchise. The film was pitched to Diesel by writers Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, though it isn't clear if all three would contribute to the script.
"As you know, there are three new spin offs that We have promised Universal... well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017, and you can tell by the smile on Samantha's face it was VERY exciting. Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY...", said Diesel in his post.
This film would be released after the upcoming two Fast and Furious films that have already been announced.
Actress Michelle Rodriguez has been trying to make this happen for a while now, even stating publicly that the franchise needed to show women more "love".
The next film in the franchise, which will be its ninth, is slated for an April 2020 release.
