"Spider-Man: No Way Home" has broken box office records this weekend. The film has earned the title of the third best-selling opening weekend of all time, and is closing in on stealing second place from "Avengers: Infinity War".
"No Way Home" has earned an estimated $257.64 - $260.6 million, with "Infinity War" earning $257.6 million in 2018. Final totals should be out today to decide which place the film will finally land.
Tom Rothman, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, said, "This weekend's historic ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home' results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve".
The film has also earned the slot of the third-highest worldwide opening of all time, with a total of $587.2 million.
"This is proof positive that moviegoers will turn out when the right film comes along. That's a win for the studios ... the studios with a multiverse of IP, that is," said Jeff Bock, senior analyst at Exhibitor Relations.
