Gordon Ramsay’s “Battle of the States” heats up as the chefs hit the road for a culinary challenge unlike any other.
Gordon Ramsay has another first for the “Battle of the States” competition.
When Hell’s Kitchen Season 24 debuted, Gordon Ramsay posed a simple question. Which state has the best chef? These chefs represent the best of the best from the 50 states. In this episode, the state theme continues with an ingredient road trip. Which chef speeds ahead to earn a coveted victory?
Both the Red Team and the Blue Team have struggled this season. From improperly cooked proteins to inedible garnishes, both teams have been thrown out of the kitchen several times. Making it through a dinner service unscathed is rare.
The reward challenges have been more successful. The chefs execute impeccable flavors, creative combinations, and superior dishes. Unfortunately, they do not have the same success in a dinner service.
To kick off Hell’s Kitchen Season 24, episode 8, "Cook For Your Life,” the chefs compete in the “State To Plate” challenge. As seen in the exclusive clip provided to FlickDirect, the concept appears easy, but there is more to it than just taking the pole position.
The challenge balances quick thinking with strategy. The chefs must correctly identify the ingredient represented by the license plate. This puzzle tests their quick thinking. In a way, it is similar to how a chef must think on their feet when an order goes sideways. For example, if a guest has a fish allergy, what is the ingredient swap on a signature dish? That type of quick thinking is vital for any chef.
While answering correctly is key, the game is strategic. If the chef is correct, he assigns the ingredient. For example, pairing Brussel sprouts with a pork chop is obvious. If the Blue Team wanted, they could have paired that vegetable with fish. Sometimes, putting the other team at a disadvantage is more important than an easy ingredient pairing.
At this point in the season, chefs are beginning to break. Ineffective execution, battling personalities, and exhaustion come together to create frazzled chefs. Even though they might work endless hours in their own restaurant, the Hell’s Kitchen pressure cooker is unlike the normal cooking environment.
Will the outcome of the “State to Plate” challenge impact which chef is sent home on Hell’s Kitchen Season 24 episode 8? Mental mind games are an integral part of Hell’s Kitchen's success. After all, Gordon Ramsay wants an Executive Chef who can handle the pressure, react, and race to the head of the pack. Only one person will earn that distinction and the Hell’s Kitchen Season 24 winner title.
Hell’s Kitchen Season 24 episode 8 airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. Episodes can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
