Green Lantern: First Flight DVD Review

Green Lantern: First Flight DVD Review

Continuing in the tradition of Wonder Woman and Batman: Gotham Knight Warner Premiere unleashes Green Lantern:  First Flight this summer on DVD and Blu-ray.

Green Lantern:  First Flight finds Hal Jordan recruited to join the Green Lantern Corps and placed under the supervision of respected senior, Lantern Sinestro.  The earthling soon discovers his mentor is actually the central figure in a secret conspiracy that threatens the philosophies, traditions, and hierarchy of the entire Green Lantern Corps.  Hal must quickly hone his newfound powers and combat the treasonous Lanterns within the ranks to maintain order in the universe.

Being that this is an origin story, there are many plot points that director, Lauren Montgomery, has to overcome with the limited time span of 77 minutes; however, she does so very skillfully by tying together how Hal Jordan acquires the power of the Green Lantern and his first mission as part of the Green Lantern core.

With 2D animation becoming a dying art, it is great to see Warner Premiere spend so much quality and care on this film.  The characters are fleshed out wonderfully; and it really makes you appreciate what can be done with an animated film.

Green Lantern is presented in its original widescreen ratio and is enhanced for widescreen televisions.  The film also features a heart pounding 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack that is music to your ears on every action pumping scene.

The single disc DVD features an inside look at Superman/Batman:  Public Enemies, and a behind-the-scenes of Blackest Night DC comic series;   While the two-disc version and the Blu-ray are a Green Lantern fan boys dream, featuring loads of behind-the-scenes features and a full history of Hal Jordan.

If you have ever been curious about the Green Lantern or want to do your homework before the live action film comes out in 2011, then this is the film for you.
