Fool's Gold DVD Review
Ben "Finn" Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey) is an affable, modern-day treasure hunter who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queen's Dowry--40 chests of priceless treasure that was lost at sea in 1715. In his quest, Finn has sunk everything he has, including his marriage to Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson). Just as Tess has begun to rebuild her life, working aboard a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland), Finn discovers a vital clue to the treasure's whereabouts. Much to Tess' consternation, Finn maneuvers himself aboard Nigel's yacht and, using his roguish charm, convinces the tycoon and his celebutante daughter, Gemma (Alexis Dziena), to join him in the pursuit of the Spanish treasure. But they are not the only ones after the prize. Finn's one-time mentor, Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone), and a ruthless local gangster (Kevin Hart) are intent t on beating Finn to the prize.
From the onset of the credits, you know you are in for a zany adventure as Ben Finnegan is introduced to you for the first time. After a few mishaps (that remind me a little bit of Weekend at Bernie's), Finningan is back on the hunt for his gold; but this time comes along his ex-wife (played by the wonderful Kate Hudson), Nigel Honeycutt, and his spoiled daughter, Gemma.
From here on out the adventure never lets up with gut-busting laughter and action to keep anyone's appetite thirst for more.
The Fool's Gold DVD is presented in its original aspect ratio and has vibrant colors and the audio is crisp and clear.
Aside from the main film, the Fool's Gold DVD also takes a behind the scenes look at the chemistry between Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, and a great gag real - showing that not all the humor was in front of the camera.
Directed by Andy Tennant (Hitch), Fool's Gold glitters with danger, action, romance, comedy, great one-liners - and a great time to be had by all! If you are in the mood for some great laughter and entertainment, then hunt no more, Fool's Gold is the treasure you are seeking!
Hidden Gem: Be sure to watch the anti-piracy ad at the beginning of the DVD for a new take on Casablanca
