Max Von Sydow, best-known for his roles in Flash Gordon, The Seventh Seal, and The Exorcist, died yesterday. He was 90.
"It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max von Sydow, on March 8, 2020," said his widow, Catherine von Sydow, in a statement.
Von Sydow was born in Lund, Sweden and got his start in acting at Stockholm's Royal Dramatic Theatre. He went on to star in numerous parts over his 65-year career, including the aforementioned roles as well as roles in popular franchises such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Lor San Tekka and in Game Of Thrones as the Three-Eyed Raven.
He was nominated for two Oscars, one for 1987 drama Pelle The Conqueror and one for 2011's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
In addition to his widow, Von Sydow, who was married twice, also leaves behind four sons.
