Cyberpunk has announced that they are teaming up with the Japan-based animation company Studio Trigger and Netflix for a new original anime series. The story will take place in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

The 10-part series will be titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and tell the story of a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner-a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.

The series will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) along with assistant director Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare). Other production members include creative director Hiromi Wakabayashi (Kill la Kill), character designers Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal) and Yuto Kaneko (Little Witch Academia), and the adapted screenplay by Yoshiki Usa (SSSS.GRIDMAN, Promare) and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare).  Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill series) will compose the original score.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set for a 2022 premiere.
