Sir Sean Connery Passes Away At 90

Legendary film star Sir Sean Connery has died. He was 90 years old. According to his only child, son Jason, he died peacefully in his sleep in his home in Nassau, Bahamas after being "unwell for some time". He went on to say "We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time. A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."

Best known for his role as James Bond, which he played for seven films, Connery has been an iconic star and sex symbol for decades. His career spanned over 50 years, and he earned an Oscar for his role in "The Untouchables". He also starred in such hits as "The Hunt for Red October", "Highlander", "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and "The Rock".

Connery was born on August 25, 1930, in Edinburgh. He began his is career in the 1950s doing theatre and small television and film roles until gaining international stardom as James Bond.  

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon made a statement about the actor's death, saying, "Our nation today mourns one of her best-loved sons. Sean was born into a working-class Edinburgh family and through talent and sheer hard work, became a film icon and one of the world's most accomplished actors." She went on to say, "Sean was a global legend but, first and foremost, he was a patriotic and proud Scot. His towering presence at the opening of the Scottish Parliament was a sign of his dedication to his country. He was a lifelong advocate of an independent Scotland and those of us who share that belief owe him a great debt of gratitude."
