Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of "Samurai Jack" and director of "Hotel Transylvania", will be directing, and helping to develop, a 3D CG animated "Popeye" film.

On board to write the script will be David Ronn and Jay Scherick. Avi and Ari Arad will produce the film.

The loveable sailor was also featured in a live action film starring Robin Williams in 1980.

The film will be released by Sony Pictures Animation.
