CBS has picked up "Beverly Hills Cop", a new series that will be an offshoot of the movie franchise.
Eddie Murphy and Shawn Ryan (The Shield) had brought the show to all four major networks, but CBS signed them on, and Sony TV has received the pilot production commitment. Murphy and Ryan will be executive producing, with Murphy also making an appearance in some of the episodes where he will reprise his role of Axel Foley. The show will focus on Foley's son, Aaron, who has decided to follow his father's footsteps as a police officer in Beverly Hills. The pilot will be written by Ryan.
The show joins CBS's lineup including "NCIS", "The Mentalist", "Hawaii Five-0" and the newly signed, "Elementary".
