Universal has acquired Tommyknockers, a film that will be based on the 1987 Stephen King novel. It is said that James Wan would be directing and also producing the project, along with Roy Lee, Larry Sanitsky, Michael Clear and Jon Berg.
Tommyknockers follows the story of a Maine community that seems to be under the control of an object that was found in the woods. We find out that this object is part of an alien craft, and emits a gas that causes the chaos that is ensuing throughout the town.
The Tommyknockers miniseries aired in 1993 and starred Jimmy Smits and Marge Helgenberger.
Universal is surely hoping to have as much success with Tommyknockers as there was with King's It, which will release its sequel in September 2019.
