Disney has announced that a "National Treasure" series is coming to Disney+.
The popular film franchise starred Nicolas Cage, but the series will be going in a different direction. We will follow the adventures of 20-year-old Jess Morales, who, along with her friends, will seek to uncover the roots of her mysterious family, as well as hidden treasures.
Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the films, will produce the series with Mira Nair directing. Original writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley have also joined the production.
A "National Treasure 3" is still in the works, as well.
"We're certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we're working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they'll both come together and we'll bring you another National Treasure, but they're both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It's the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast," said Bruckheimer in a 2020 interview.
