James Mangold in Talks to Direct DC's Upcoming Swamp Thing Film

It's being reported that James Mangold is in early talks to direct DC's "Swamp Thing."

Mangold is no stranger to superhero/comic book films, as he directed the Wolverine film "Logan". Recently, he's been working on "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" and the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown".

The "Swamp Thing" film was announced yesterday by James Gunn and Peter Safran, along with a slew of other films for the upcoming DC lineup.

"This is a much more horrific film, but we'll still have Swamp Thing interact with the other characters," said Gunn.

The "Swamp Thing" character, which was created by writer Len Wein and horror artist Bernie Wrightson,  first debuted in 1971's "House of Secrets No. 92" and has spawned two films and two TV series.  The character is a humanoid-plant hybrid created by scientist Alec Holland, who becomes transformed into the titular hero after a failed experiment. He has the ability to control and manipulate all forms of plant life and is often depicted as a force for good, fighting against environmental destruction and evil forces.

The film is still in its early stages, but with the character's long history, it's exciting to see what Mangold and the team at DC will bring to the table.
