Foundation Season 3 Renewed: Apple TV+ Continues Epic Sci-Fi Saga | Cast, Plot, and More

After the resounding success of its globally acclaimed second season, recognized as the benchmark for all science fiction programming, Apple TV+ has officially greenlit the third season of its epic saga, "Foundation." Developed by storyteller David S. Goyer, produced by Skydance Television, and featuring stellar performances by Lee Pace and Jared Harris, the upcoming season is set to further enrich the acclaimed television adaptation of Isaac Asimov's award-winning stories.

Expressing his excitement, showrunner and executive producer David S. Goyer stated, "I'm thrilled Apple has given us the opportunity to continue chronicling Asimov's pioneering galactic saga. This time, the stakes for Foundation and Empire are even higher as the Mule takes center stage, along with fan-favorites Bayta, Toran, Ebling, and Magnifico Giganticus."

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, commended the creative team and cast for their ambitious, action-packed, and imaginative adaptation, emphasizing the global success of "Foundation." He expressed anticipation for the unfolding narrative in season three, promising an engaging experience for both existing and new characters.

Since its debut on Apple TV+, "Foundation" has garnered widespread acclaim for its visual brilliance and breathtaking storytelling, earning a reputation as a must-see TV event and one of television's most expansive sci-fi epics. Season two boasts a remarkable 100% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Both seasons are currently available for streaming on Apple TV+.

In the second season, set over a century after the finale of season one, tensions escalate across the galaxy. The Cleons face unraveling, a vengeful queen plots to dismantle the Empire from within, and a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities threatens to disrupt psychohistory itself. The series intricately weaves the Foundation's evolution into its religious phase, sparking the Second Crisis: war with the Empire. Against a backdrop of shifting loyalties and complex relationships, the monumental adaptation chronicles the journeys of four pivotal individuals transcending space and time to determine humanity's fate.

In addition to Lee Pace and Jared Harris, the cast includes Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann, Isabella Laughland, Kulvinder Ghir, Ella-Rae Smith, Holt McCallany, Rachel House, Nimrat Kaur, Ben Daniels, and Dimitri Leonidas.

Produced for Apple by Skydance Television, "Foundation" is spearheaded by showrunner and executive producer David S. Goyer, with a team of executive producers including Alex Graves, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bill Bost, and Robin Asimov.

To complement the series, the "Foundation: The Official Podcast" is available on Apple Podcasts, hosted by Jason Concepcion and David Goyer, and produced by Pineapple Street Studios with Max Linsky, Jenna Weiss-Berman, and Bari Finkel as executive producers.
