Watchmen: Chapter I Katee Sackhoff on Voicing Silk Spectre in Watchmen Chapter One

You are no stranger to voice work. Why choose to play Laurie slash Silk Spectre? I love that name, by the way. So do I, right? Laurie Uspechik was one of the hardest things I had to say. I still have a problem saying Rorschach. I think I have to think about it like a lion and then a sack with an S-H. It's like my brain doesn't understand these names.

You know, I love voiceover work. It is just another branch of sort of like acting for me. And, you know, and I love the creative process of it. I love using the voice. The voice is the tool and having that be the only thing that you have to convey emotion for my side of it anyway. You know, obviously you've got the animators, but so I really enjoy it.

Now, as far as picking projects are concerned, like as soon as my agency was like, you know, Watchmen, I was like, like, you don't need to say anymore. Like that was it. That was pretty much it. You know, I work in visual, like in my brain, like that's what stimulates my brain is visual. And the book stimulated my brain before the film. And I loved what Malin did with the character.

And so it becomes using those things as, you know, a tool to inspire my take on it, you know, which, you know, you're not trying to reinvent the mold, but you are trying to make it different and, you know, put your spin on it for sure. Yeah. How difficult was going into that knowing that Malin had done such a terrific job and that people were going to compare you?

Oh, yeah, for sure. They should. Malin's amazing. You know, she, she did such a wonderful job. And her character is so beloved that, that I think that it's not about for me, comparison would have really just taken me out of what I was trying to convey. So for me, what I wanted to focus on with Laurie was her vulnerability. That was really important for me because it's a through line for her.

And I really wanted the audience to feel her self-doubt and pain. And so that is something that I think I brought to the character. Fantastic. I think that's something a little bit different and that people will really enjoy seeing. Yeah. Tell me if you can, anything about how we go in, in the first part and into chapter two. What, what kind of spoiler can you give me without giving too much away?

Oh my Lord. There's so much. But at the same time, I think what's important is that, that to know that this stays true to the book. Fans of the book will be really surprised. Surprised. And I think really excited about this and what they see. I watched chapter one just recently. And I absolutely loved it. You know, I've got two young kids and so I got them to bed and then started watching it and I was so tired.

I could barely keep my eyes open, but I just kept watching because it's so good. And it made me so excited for chapter two. So I would say that for people, for people who are, that love Watchmen, this is for you. Who people, people who are skeptical and love Watchmen, this is for you. And people who have no idea what the book is and have never seen the Snyder version, this is for you.

And I, I say that not as a person trying to sell this, but as a person who, who truly believes that. It's so good. And I just, I'm excited for people to see it. . Thank you.
