New Ghostbusters Animated Movie, The Mummy, & Sonic 4: Major Updates!

Hey everybody, and welcome back to this week's episode of Flick News. Izola here with FlickDirect, and if you're new to the channel, this is where I kind of give you, you know, what we've learned in movie news for the past week. So grab your popcorn, sit back, relax, and let's get this started. Happy Christmas! Kind of made me think of Frosty the Snowman, only he said happy birthday until the very end and when he realized that it was Merry Christmas, but that's a whole nother thing.

If you haven't seen Frosty the Snowman, the cartoon, it's adorable. Anyway, I have a gift for you. Well, it's not technically mine to give, but I am allowed to share it, so I guess that's a gift in itself, is it not? Maybe? It's actually Blumhouse that is giving us this gift, and it is going to be a new Mummy movie. I don't know how excited you are to hear that, but I'm...

I got this. I got the giggles. I'm very excited. I love the original Mummy movies, and so this just makes me really happy that we're finally getting another one. A little skeptical, nervous, but happy nonetheless. Now, The Mummy has been around for a long time, starring, what, Boris Karloff in 1932. Then we had the ones that I absolutely love, which, don't get me wrong, Boris Karloff, amazing Mummy movie, but Brendan Fraser.

Absolutely love that man. That was a great Mummy movie. Then also, Tom Cruise tried to do one in 2017, and that one definitely had potential, and I just wish they kind of completed where they were going with that one, because it did have potential. Universal has such iconic monsters. I mean, they are the OG monster makers, right? The Mummy is no exception.

I just wish that we had those old, iconic monster movies that we used to have in the past. But hey, who knows? This could be the start of getting those monsters back onto the big screen. So Lee Cronin, who's known for Evil Dead Rise, will be at the helm of this, working with Blumhouse, and they have both said that this is going to be a fresh take on the monster lore or legacy.

Now, how did I find this out, you might ask? Well, they decided to share this in an Instagram post, which I will post right here, and the caption, I think, you know, kind of says, So be sure to go follow Blumhouse and Cronin so you can get all the information on that. But you know, when I hear more about this, I will fill you in as well. As it says in the caption or their post, 2026.

I didn't think anything was going to be coming sooner than that. But you know, there will be behind the scenes footage and some trailers coming out. So once I hear anything, I will definitely let you guys know. So I think we're around 40 years now. That's a lot. We have been toying with movies and animated TV shows about Ghostbusters. And if you are a fan like I am, one of the main rules for being a Ghostbuster is that you never cross the streams.

At least that's what they've said in all of the movies and the TV show. Well, apparently someone didn't listen because they have decided, this is Sony and Netflix, collaborate and give us an animated movie. Okay, that's where you get the crossing the streams because it's animated and a movie. They had TV show and live action movie, but you get it. But yes, this is very exciting because we're now getting our very own Ghostbusters animated movie.

Now, don't get this confused with the Ghostbusters series that has been in the works since 2022. This is going to be, I don't want to say it's a fresh take, but almost an expansion on the Ghostbuster world, I guess. So it's going to kind of open it up a little bit more to give us, you know, maybe some things that have been brought up in past movies, origin stories, you know, fun things like that.

I think what they're really trying to do is just breathe new life into the franchise, kind of like how the Spider-Verse movies did for Spider-Man, which with Sony at the helm for this particular type of movie animated. I think that that's probably a good choice and they'd be able to really tackle this head on and hopefully do it right. And I really think that with using their 2D, 3D hybrid type of filming is really going to help with bringing some new life into the movie, especially after Frozen Empire not doing so great.

I still thought it was a cute movie, but you know. I think it was a little too far away from the Ghostbusting and kind of fell more onto the family drama and stuff. So I don't think people really wanted that as much as you go watch a Ghostbusters movie, you know, it's about the ghosts. And the first one did so well. And the premise of that one was just so great for, you know, I don't want to call it a reboot, but bringing it back to life live action.

It just kind of. It didn't hit the mark in the second one. So hopefully this animated movie will kind of bring it back to life and, you know, we'll get a whole new leash on that life for Ghostbusters. Now, we don't have any script news, plot news, you know, who's going to be in this. If it is a movie and it's following Frozen Empire, maybe we would get some of the cast.

Again, don't even know if it's the same characters. Everything's hush hush right now because they just, you know, wanted to. Share the Christmas cheer and let us know that they're working on that. So once I hear anything, I will definitely let you guys know what's happening. But for now, that's all I've got. But I think that's pretty, pretty fun and exciting news.

So this next bit of news is a little bit odd, I guess, maybe just in the way that it came out. So Friday was when Sonic 3 came out. And for some reason, Paramount had a bug up their butt and decided to share some updates. I guess before the movie came out. And that was to say that they're already working on Sonic number four. So instead of this being a trilogy, it's turning into what I'm going to say Empire calls a quadrilogy.

Yeah, I didn't look it up. Normally, I'm really good with words. But is quadrilogy really a word? If not, I think it's fun to say. But, you know, hey, it's a fourth movie for the for the Sonic fans. So. Get ready for that one. If you haven't seen, you know, Sonic 3, we'll go see that and then you're going to have to wait a while. But you will get a fourth.

Let's just hope three does really well. But seriously, are we surprised that they're already announcing this? I mean, the first two movies made over 700 million dollars and they already announced a Knuckles spinoff. Yeah, I'm I'm not surprised. And also they got Keanu Reeves to do Shadow. I mean, I swear everything he touches is gold, even if the movies aren't great.

Just having him in them just boosts it a million percent. So, you know, of course this was going to happen. None of us should be shocked. I'm I think where the shock lies is that they announced it so early. Normally you wait maybe a week or so until after the movie's been out. But they're like, oh, hell no. We're just going to announce it before the movie even comes out because it's a guaranteed win.

Yeah, I I guess so. Obviously, information on Sonic 4. Don't even have a name. Is extremely scarce. Again, three hasn't. I mean, it just released on Friday. So we have zero zilch. Nada. Nothing to tell you about right now, except for they're working on it. So, you know, just put that in your back pocket. And when we find out more, I'll definitely let you know what's happening.
