Kiernan Shipka, who played Sally Draper in "Mad Men", has been cast as Sabrina in Netflix's upcoming series about the Archie Comics' supernatural heroine.
Sabrina Spellman is a young half/human half witch who tries to balance her life as a high school student and sorceress. The "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" comic was created in 1962. A popular live-action series aired on ABC and then the WB between 1996-2003.
Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said, "We're all such huge fans of Kiernan's work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone's wish list. This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we're incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own."
Jon Goldwater, who is the executive producer and Archie Comics CEO also commented on the casting, saying, "I am thrilled that Kiernan is playing Sabrina and have no doubt that she will embody the strength, courage and boldness that has made the character a fan favorite."
The series is slated for release this year.
