Following the conclusion of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer are preparing their first theatrical feature under Paramount.

After nearly a decade of global success with Stranger Things, creators Matt and Ross Duffer are officially turning their attention to the big screen.

Following the end of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers are setting their sights on the big screen.

The filmmaking duo has set its first feature film under its exclusive four-year deal with Paramount. While details about the project remain under wraps, the studio has scheduled the untitled film for a wide theatrical release on November 3, 2028.

Paramount confirmed that Matt and Ross Duffer will both write and direct the feature, which is being developed through their production company, Upside Down Pictures.

Before becoming household names through Stranger Things, the brothers directed the post-apocalyptic thriller Hidden. Although the film experienced a delayed release and eventually debuted on video-on-demand, it helped establish the pair as emerging filmmakers.

Their screenplay for Hidden also caught the attention of filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, who later hired them as writers on the Fox television series Wayward Pines. The opportunity helped pave the way for the project that would ultimately transform their careers.

In July 2016, the Duffers launched Stranger Things on Netflix. Blending science fiction, horror, adventure, and 1980s nostalgia, the series quickly became one of the platform’s biggest original hits and turned the brothers into two of the most recognizable creators in television.

Following the conclusion of Stranger Things, the filmmakers are now focusing on a broader slate of film, television, and streaming projects under their Paramount agreement.

The deal also reunites the brothers with several executives who played key roles in their earlier success, including Paramount’s head of streaming Cindy Holland, who originally helped greenlight Stranger Things during her tenure at Netflix.

According to the brothers, the move was driven less by leaving Netflix and more by a longtime goal of making a major theatrical film.

“We’re going to turn 42 soon,” Matt Duffer said during a previous interview. “I was like, ‘If we’re going to do a movie for the theaters, let’s go!’”

Paramount has not released any story details, but the announcement gives fans their first look at what the Duffer Brothers plan to tackle after Stranger Things.
