Zack Snyder, after inking his new deal with Netflix, is wasting no time getting his first film under that deal, in front of an audience. Snyder has tapped Sofia Boutella to star in Rebel Moon, a film he is directing as well as co-writing with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. The film is based on a story by Snyder and Johnstad. Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Snyder will produce for The Stone Quarry along with Eric Newman for Grand Electric.
With the success of his first film with the streamer, Army of the Dead, Zack, and Deborah Snyder's, The Stone Quarry signed a first-look deal with the studio and Rebel Moon was named Snyder's next big feature.
The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened. Boutella's character is tasked to find warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the enemy.
After months of meeting with talent for the lead role, Boutella is said to have wowed Snyder. Boutella is represented by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, and 42. The film marks a reunion for Newman, Snyder, and Netflix Film Head Scott Stuber.
