Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure Other Worlds Announcement Reveals Netflix's Stranger Things Prequel
The Stranger Things Universe Heads to 1950s Nevada in Netflix's New Prequel
The official announcement for Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure introduces a new setting for the supernatural franchise: Marion, Nevada, in the 1950s. Arriving on Netflix in 2028, the live-action prequel moves beyond Hawkins to follow new characters confronting a mystery near a restricted government area. The announcement offers an early glimpse of the danger taking shape around the desert town.
Created by Kate Trefry alongside Matt and Ross Duffer, Other Worlds expands the Stranger Things universe with new heroes, villains, and mythology. Its earlier setting places the story before the original series and Stranger Things: The First Shadow, opening another chapter in the franchise's supernatural history. Netflix has announced a 2028 release window; an exact premiere date has not yet been revealed.
ABOUT OTHER WORLDS: A STRANGER THINGS ADVENTURE
Set in 1950s Marion, Nevada, Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure follows a new group of characters living near a restricted government area where an unexplained disturbance begins to cut across the desert night. A lonely bicycle, distant town lights and a sky that seems to split open hint that something impossible is stirring just beyond the edge of normal life. The series expands the Stranger Things mythology without returning to Hawkins, using a fresh setting and a new cast of heroes to frame the mystery from the ground up.
Created by Kate Trefry with the Duffer Brothers and directed by Joe Wright, the series is positioned as a prequel and a new branch of the wider Stranger Things universe. Netflix has described it as a story about new heroes, villains, themes and mythology, with ties to the events surrounding Stranger Things: The First Shadow. That gives the project a familiar emotional and supernatural foundation while still leaving room for its own identity, as the characters confront a danger that seems to reach far beyond one desert town.
