New Heat Sequel in the Works with Adam Driver

It's being reported that a sequel to Michael Mann's 1995 classic "Heat" is getting close to becoming a reality. Warner Bors. is supposedly in negotiations with Mann to bring the project, which was developed as a novel, to life.

Mann has reportedly wanted to make this film for some time but had other projects on the burner, such as "Ferrari" with Adam Driver. Driver is also said to be in talks to star as a young Neil McCauley in the film.

The "Heat 2" novel takes place a day after the first film's timeline. Chris Shiherlis (played by Val Kilmer) is in Koreatown, in a wounded and delirious state, attempting to flee Los Angeles after LAPD detective Vincent Hanna (played by Al Pacino) killed his comrade Neil McCauley (played by Robert De Niro) in a gunfight at the LAX runway. Hanna is now focused on apprehending or eliminating Shiherlis, who is the sole survivor of McCauley's crew, before he leaves the city.

The story takes us back seven years to 1988, where McCauley, Shiherlis, and their team are successfully robbing various locations along the West Coast, the US-Mexican border, and in Chicago. Hanna, a Chicago homicide detective, is determined to pursue the group of violent criminals into the wild and dark areas, as he is unresolved with his past.

As a result of the fallout from McCauley's scores and Hanna's pursuit, unexpected consequences emerge in a parallel storyline that spans several years.

"Heat 2" features an array of intriguing characters who find themselves in new environments, such as rival crime organizations in a South American free-trade zone and transnational criminal enterprises in Southeast Asia. The novel allows readers to intimately explore these characters' lives as they encounter new adversaries in dangerous circumstances. This crime fiction masterpiece, with its scope and rich characterizations, is comparable to the epic film. It is a captivating, poignant, and tragic story.

No word yet on any actors from the first film returning to reprise their roles.
