Sadie Sink leads Marvel Studios' new generation of mutants alongside Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Samara Weaving, Inde Navarrette, Maya Boyd, and Adam Driver.
Marvel fans have been waiting years for the X-Men to officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, while a few familiar mutants have already made appearances, Marvel Studios has now revealed the cast that will lead the team's next big-screen adventure.
During Marvel Studios' presentation at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was joined onstage by Sadie Sink and director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*) to discuss the upcoming X-Men film.
Sink, who debuted as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will reprise the role in X-Men. Feige, Sink, and Schreier were then joined by several of the actors who will make up the new team.
Kit Connor (Heartstopper) will play Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops, while Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) will portray Professor Charles Xavier. Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) has been cast as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) will play Rogue, and Maya Boyd (& Juliet) will take on the role of Storm.
Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) couldn't be there in person but still had some news for the D23 audience. Appearing in a special video recording, Driver announced that he will play Nathaniel Milbury, also known as Mister Sinister.
Schreier, who directed Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*, will direct the new X-Men movie, with Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) working on the screenplay.
Of course, this isn't the first time mutants have shown up in the MCU. Patrick Stewart returned as Professor Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Kelsey Grammer appeared as Beast in The Marvels, and Deadpool & Wolverine brought several familiar characters from the Fox films into the MCU.
There are also more familiar faces coming before the new X-Men movie arrives. Avengers: Doomsday will feature Stewart and Grammer along with Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Channing Tatum will also return as Gambit after making his debut as the character in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The last main X-Men film released by 20th Century Fox was Dark Phoenix in 2019, the same year Disney completed its acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Since then, fans have been waiting to find out when Marvel Studios would introduce a new X-Men team of its own.
Now they finally know who will be suiting up, and when they will arrive in theaters.
Marvel Studios' currently untitled X-Men film will be released exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028.
