Lionsgate will be expanding its cinematic universe by delving into two of its most successful franchises, "John Wick" and "Twilight", through the creation of new TV series spin-offs. Michael Burns, Vice Chairman of the company, revealed details about these exciting projects during a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley media conference.
For the "Twilight" series, which had previously been rumored in April and is now officially confirmed, Lionsgate aims to captivate audiences with an animated rendition of the beloved vampire-themed saga. Burns expressed optimism about the venture, anticipating a high level of interest in the animated adaptation of the "Twilight" universe.
In the case of "John Wick", known for its adrenaline-pumping action sequences and starring the charismatic Keanu Reeves, Lionsgate is gearing up to transform this blockbuster film series into a thrilling television experience. This decision follows the success of the prequel, "The Continental", which is comprised of three one-and-a-half-hour movies.
Burns elaborated on the positive reception of "The Continental", stating, "We ended up making a very relatively short-term deal on that show with Peacock and Amazon," highlighting its debut as Peacock's top original launch in 2023.
The "Twilight" film series, adapted from Stephanie Meyer's novels and concluding in 2012 with "Breaking Dawn: Part 2", achieved monumental success, grossing over $3.4 billion globally. The franchise played a pivotal role in catapulting the careers of its stars, including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner.
Meanwhile, the four "John Wick" movies, featuring Keanu Reeves as the formidable assassin, have collectively amassed over $1 billion at the global box office.
