Amazon Prime Video has greenlit Phoebe Waller-Bridge's adaptation of the popular "Tomb Raider" video game series into a television series. Waller-Bridge, renowned for her creation of "Fleabag," is set to both write and executive produce the show, which will center around the daring exploits of Lara Croft, the intrepid archaeologist and adventurer.

Reports of the "Tomb Raider" series being in development first surfaced in January 2023. The confirmation of its order to series came during Amazon's upfronts presentation held at New York City's Pier 36 event space. Jennifer Salke, the chief of Amazon MGM Studios, expressed her excitement for the project, highlighting Waller-Bridge's passion for the iconic Lara Croft character.

Under a collaboration between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, facilitated by dj2 Entertainment's first-look deal, the series is set to delve into additional stories within the "Tomb Raider" universe. Executive producers include Waller-Bridge, Jenny Robbins, Dmitri M. Johnson, and Michael Scheel, with Amanda Greenblatt and Ryan Andolina serving as consulting producers under their Star Party banner.

"If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she'd explode. ‘Tomb Raider' has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can't wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all," said Waller-Bridge.

In addition to the television series, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games have previously revealed plans for a new installment in the "Tomb Raider" video game franchise. Described as a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure, the game promises to deliver a fresh chapter in Lara Croft's legendary journey. This dual approach signifies a concerted effort to engage fans through immersive storytelling experiences across multiple mediums.
