It has been reported that Freddie Prinze Jr. has signed on to reprise his role in the upcoming "I Know What You Did Last Summer" sequel film by Sony. Prinze starred as Ray Bronson in the original 1997 film and the 1998 follow-up, "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer".
Plot details are unknown, but Prinze will join the previously announced cast, including Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is set to direct the newest installment of the popular horror film franchise, co-written by Sam Lansky and Robinson, based on a draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz will produce the film, with Sony Pictures planning to release it in theaters on July 18, 2025. The original movie, "I Know What You Did Last Summer," follows four friends who a hook-wielding killer terrorizes after a tragic accident. Starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe, the film became a hit, leading to a 1998 sequel titled "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer."
The franchise continued with a direct-to-video third film in 2006, "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer," though it had a new cast and a different storyline from the first two movies. In 2021, Prime Video aired a TV adaptation based on the same Lois Duncan novel, created by Sara Goodman and produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. The series, starring Madison Iseman, Bill Heck, and Brianne Tju, lasted for one season.
