The raunchy, irreverent world of Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" is about to make an animated splash. Peacock has officially greenlit an animated continuation of the hit comedy franchise, further building on the success of the original films and the live-action series that debuted in early 2024.
While plot details remain under wraps, the upcoming show is confirmed to be a direct sequel to the "Ted" films, promising fans a continuation of the bizarre yet hilarious friendship between John Bennett and his foul-mouthed, walking, talking teddy bear, Ted.
Seth MacFarlane is set to return as the voice of Ted, the iconic, R-rated stuffed animal. In addition to voicing the title character, MacFarlane will serve as executive producer on every episode of the animated series. He will be joined by longtime collaborators Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh-veterans of Modern Family and executive producers of the live-action Ted series-ensuring the new iteration stays true to its comedic roots.
The cast is also getting back together, with several familiar voices returning to the fold. Mark Wahlberg will once again lend his voice to John, Ted's devoted and often hapless human best friend. Amanda Seyfried returns as Sam, and Jessica Barth reprises her role as Tami-Lynn, Ted's on-again, off-again partner. The series also introduces new characters to the Ted universe, including Apollo, voiced by Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney, and Ruth, voiced by Liz Richman.
The project is a collaboration between UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door (MacFarlane's production company), and MRC. Additional executive producers include Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, Aimee Carlson (representing Fuzzy Door), and Claudia Katz of Rough Draft, a studio well-known for its animation work on series like Futurama and Disenchantment.
The announcement comes on the heels of Ted's successful foray into live-action television. The first season, which premiered in January 2024, shattered viewership records on Peacock, quickly becoming the platform's most-watched original series to date. According to data from Nielsen, the show dominated streaming charts, holding the title of the No. 1 original streaming comedy in the United States for over two consecutive months. Its success earned it a swift renewal for a second season.
No release date has been announced yet for "Ted: The Animated Series" (working title).
