Peacock has officially renewed "Twisted Metal" for a third season. David Reed, known for his work on "The Boys" and "Supernatural", will take over as showrunner and executive producer. He steps in following the departure of Michael Jonathan Smith, who "concluded his involvement as showrunner and executive producer" after leading the first two seasons.
The series follows John Doe (Anthony Mackie), a wisecracking courier trying to build a better life in a fractured, post-apocalyptic America. Season 1 centers on his mission to deliver a mysterious package across a dangerous wasteland. Along the way, he teams up with Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), an ax-wielding car thief whose fierce instincts make her an indispensable ally. Their journey brings them face-to-face with marauders, rogue factions and Sweet Tooth - the deadly, deranged clown performed by Joe Seanoa and voiced by Will Arnett. The series leans into its roots with explosive vehicular combat and a world full of unpredictable threats, keeping the tone both chaotic and comedic.
Season 2 opens immediately after the Season 1 finale and thrusts John and Quiet into the violent Twisted Metal tournament. Hosted by the enigmatic Calypso (Anthony Carrigan), the demolition derby forces contestants into lethal battles on the road. As they compete, John is confronted by a major revelation: the return of his long-lost sister, Dollface (Tiana Okoye), now a vigilante with her own unsettled agenda. The finale sets the direction for Season 3 through a dramatic post-credit twist-Calypso frames John and Quiet for the massacre of the tournament's spectators, sparking a looming war that will carry the story forward.
Peacock reported that "Twisted Metal" Season 2 "registered 993 million minutes viewed," making it the streamer's "second highest-reaching original returning scripted season."
Aside from "The Boys" and "Supernatural", Reed's credits include "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds", "The Magicians", "Revolution", and "Aquarius". He began his career on "Battlestar Galactica" and has also written novels, comic books, and video games. He remains under an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television.
Reed joins a large team of returning executive producers, including Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Arnett and Marc Forman (Electric Ave), Anthony Mackie (Make It Gravy Productions), Jason Spire, Peter Principato, Asad Qizilbash, and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and Hermen Hulst of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
