The sci-fi dramedy "Resident Alien" is officially coming to an end. It has been confirmed that the series has been canceled by USA Network following the launch of its fourth season. Although the decision to end the show has been made, fans will still get to see how the story wraps up - the remaining three episodes of Season 4 will air as scheduled in the coming weeks.
Originally premiering on Syfy in 2021, "Resident Alien" quickly became a fan favorite for its quirky blend of science fiction, mystery, and offbeat comedy. The series starred Alan Tudyk as a stranded alien sent to destroy humanity who ends up posing as a small-town doctor and gradually finds himself growing attached to the people he's meant to annihilate.
After three seasons on Syfy, the show made a network switch to USA, another NBCUniversal property, where it debuted its fourth season in June 2025. Despite the move and the fresh start, the writing was already on the wall for the show's conclusion.
“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season. Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I'm so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series,” said showrunner and series creator Chris Sheridan.
Sheridan also noted that while the conclusion of Season 4 is meant to be final, it doesn't completely close the book on the world of Resident Alien.
“The finale gives the series a very satisfying ending while also leaving the door cracked open for any future this world may have,” he added. “I can't wait for everyone to see it.”
The ensemble cast of Resident Alien includes Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, Elizabeth Bowen, Judah Prehn, and Meredith Garretson, who helped bring the fictional town of Patience, Colorado to life over the course of four seasons.
Tudyk’s performance as the alien-in-hiding, Harry Vanderspeigle, has consistently drawn praise for its comedic timing and emotional depth. Through Harry's evolving relationship with the human race, particularly his young confidant Max and his unlikely friends in town, the series delivered both laugh-out-loud moments and surprising poignancy.
"Resident Alien" airs Fridays on USA, with new episodes made available to stream on Peacock one week later. The series finale is currently scheduled to air on , bringing the fan-favorite alien's Earth-bound saga to a close, at least for now.
