The Supernatural and The Boys star will play detective Lucas Davenport in the eight-episode adaptation of John Sandford's bestselling Prey novels.
Jensen Ackles is taking on another major television role. The actor will star as Lucas Davenport and executive produce Rules of Prey, an upcoming MGM+ crime thriller based on John Sandford's bestselling Prey book series.
The eight-episode drama is being developed by Bruce Terris, who created the series and will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
Rules of Prey centers on Davenport, a former Minneapolis Police Department detective who has left his career behind but finds himself pulled back into the world of law enforcement when a string of murders appears to be connected directly to him.
Described as a brilliant and unconventional detective with a strong personal sense of justice, Davenport is forced to confront a killer whose intelligence and methods make the investigation deeply personal.

The project continues Ackles' growing relationship with Amazon MGM Studios and MGM+. He currently has another major series in the works with Vought Rising, the upcoming The Boys prequel in which he reprises his role as Soldier Boy. Ackles is also executive producing the series, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
Ackles previously starred in and executive produced Amazon's thriller Countdown while continuing his role as Soldier Boy in The Boys. He is also set to return as Russell Shaw for the fourth season of CBS' Tracker.
Produced by MGM Television and Take 5 Productions, Rules of Prey will feature executive producers Ackles, Terris, Charles Gogolak and Matt Leipzig for Modern Literary Arts, along with Howard Braunstein, Michael Jaffe, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra and John Weber.
Daniel Sackheim, whose directing credits include Game of Thrones, will direct the first two episodes and executive produce the series. Sandford will also serve as a co-producer.
Production on Rules of Prey is scheduled to begin this month in Toronto. MGM+ has not yet announced a premiere date.
