In 1977, Judy Heumann and a group of disability rights activists did something extraordinary. When the federal government refused to listen to their demands, they occupied its offices and refused to leave. Their fight comes to the big screen in Being Heumann, the new film from Academy Award-winning director Siân Heder. Ruth Madeley stars as Heumann, a young disabled woman who has spent years pushing for equal rights and accessibility. When government officials stop returning her calls, she joins forces with a determined group of activists who decide that waiting patiently is no longer an option.
What begins as an impulsive act becomes the longest occupation of a federal building in American history. Hundreds of protesters take over government offices, demanding enforcement of protections that could change the lives of millions of Americans with disabilities.
Standing between the activists and the changes they seek is a government official played by Mark Ruffalo. As the occupation stretches on, the protesters must navigate disagreements, exhaustion, and mounting pressure while holding together a movement that refuses to back down.
Heder, whose previous film CODA won the Academy Award for Best Picture, directs from a screenplay written with Rebekah Taussig. Based on the life and activism of Judy Heumann, the film brings humor, frustration, and humanity to a pivotal chapter in the American disability rights movement.
Being Heumann is rated R and runs approximately 127 minutes. Following select theatrical engagements beginning November 6, the film arrives on Apple TV November 13, 2026.

How to Enter the Being Heumann Ticket Giveaway
Entering is free. To be considered, email the following information to contest@flickdirect.com before the deadline:
- Your full name.
- A valid email address where you can be reached.
- Your selected screening city: MIAMI, ORLANDO, or TAMPA.
- Email subject line: Being Heumann Ticket Giveaway.
MANDATORY CITY REQUIREMENT: You must clearly include Miami, Orlando, or Tampa in the body of your entry email. Entries without a valid screening city will be discarded and will not be eligible to win. FlickDirect will not contact entrants to request missing information.
ENTRY DEADLINE: Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET. Entries received after the deadline will not be considered.
One eligible winner will be selected at random from valid entries and notified by email. The prize consists of one pair of tickets for the winner's selected screening city, subject to confirmation by the event organizer. The winner must respond promptly and follow any additional instructions provided to receive the tickets.
Early arrival is recommended. Theater admission and seating depend on event requirements and available capacity.
