hi I'm Allison Haslet with FlickDirect and I'm talking to Logan lurman and Sarah Ganon about their film indignation Hi how are you great good yeah thank you how you doing I'm very good today good um did you read the book yes of course did you like it yes yeah loved it stood out about it that really made you said I want this character uh well I mean it was the screenplay uh the book uh reading the book was a you know the the first step in in in research and and trying to you know familiarize myself with uh with the I guess Philip Roth's you know material but um yeah yeah it was the script it was the strength of James Sheamus's uh adaptation okay and for you same or yeah absolutely the characters you know it's a character study that they're so they're fleshed out on the page and and in the novel uh you know Philip Roth just sews you into the consciousness of these to people at this uh very specific time in American history and it was fascinating and uh and so I was of course drawn to that I loved these characters and I thought they were so complex and I love the the difficult um situation they kind of had each of them with their parents can you talk a little bit about it's a good question no one's really asked us that yet maybe because I am a parent I don't know yeah yeah yeah no one has yeah it's a big it's a big part of absolutely of what shapes them yeah yeah uh you know I think uh you know it sets up the movie for me I mean the the the it sets up the uh reason why I ended up at this college which is what the film is about um my father is very controlling and paranoid about my uh safety and just overbearing and I'm trying to get away from him um and my mother as well uh a little bit not as not as much of my mother later on she becomes very controlling but um I think that you know ties in with with the rest of the film where my character is constantly being controlled by other people um and uh his parents in particular I think uh uh really make him want to escape his his his home you know get away far as far away as possible from uh from new Yark New Jersey so that he can uh grow isn't that like every teenager I think so it's very relatable yeah talk a little bit about working with um James on this Jame Sheamus is uh is the most experienced firsttime director you know he's uh he's a master of of of of Cinema independent cinema and uh a lot of his influence and decision making over the past 20 years what not however long 25 30 years uh are are and a lot of films that he's been a part of are reasons why I'm interested in film in the first place or started to become interested in in movies and to work with him learn from him uh spend time with him pick his brain was uh just a incredible experience for me how did he help shape your character well James is a professor that's one of you know the kind of many things that he does and and uh and Logan and I are very kind of thirsty actors we we just want you know we want to do as much research and as much work as we can and and James kind of handed us like a course you know and he gave us you know reading list and these you know assignments and things to do and things to watch and uh and it was a joy because you were able to completely immerse yourself in um the culture and the literature of the time and uh and so it really kind of created this framework for us to create these characters and and that was really exciting I think for for both of us if I can speak for both of them yes yeah okay so it sounds like it was really collaborative which is fantastic yeah it was it was it was like the true kind of spirit that independent film should be it should be this kind of Adventure that everybody kind of gives over to yeah well thank you so much I really enjoyed the film and I I hope it's extremely successful for you apprciate thank you it's nice talking to [Music] you
