tell me all about Stan here because i' I've been watching the show oh good and I have to tell you I never laugh so hard with some of the comments that you come out of your mouth how much of that is scripted for you Dana puts most everything on the page and then once we do it his way you're free to bring your flavor but like in all TV like in Scrubs like in in stand against evil you want to say what's on the page first because it's it's not just some random collection of syllables that somebody threw against the wall what's on the page on shows like Stan and scrubs has been labored over so meticulously that when actors don't um really respect the page it's a bad Point of Departure um to show up on the set so I always I really honor what's on the page and then I have some flavor that I want to bring and Dana is open to that as long as we get what what we what we set out to get first okay I have to tell you cuz you're kind of putting me to shame here you look really in shape what are you doing to keep in shape here i surf mostly up in Malibu and uh what else do we do I chase a six and a niney old around the house that'll do it and that's what I do that's what my days are so are they keeping you busy swinging shovels and stuff on this show uh yeah I mean Stan's pretty vigorous in this and taking pipes to witch's heads um to shovels to a wraith's head the second season's phenomenally ambitious uh both monster wise and also the The Arc that Janet and I have emotionally uh paid paid off for us because the actors always want to kind of dig into the meat of of the of the characters and Dana put it on the page this year for us so we really got to dig in well they gave you a limited number of monsters that you have to kill what happens after that come on we got to keep all those episodes going well there's 172 witches that were burned and so if we have 172 episodes I mean we only did 200 of scrub so if we get to 172 at 80 year uh you do the math I'll be I'll be 6t under there you go thanks a lot for coming out and talking to us enjoy the rest of your ComiCon thank you so tell me about you got all this makeup that you got going on that they make you look so beautiful uh I think you don't mean beautiful unless you love creature makeup it's the succubus the succubus all of our the veins popping out and stuff it was insane yeah I was so excited about that I I don't need to be the pretty girl uh at all that's not how I am or how I feel and and uh and so I was so excited when I found out I was getting any kind of special effects makeup that I was just leaning into the mirror the entire time like looking at every little thing that uh was being done because to me that's like that's you know it's like we get to be kids we're grown-ups but we get to be kids and Who as a kid wouldn't want to have like a bunch of really expensive makeup done to make you look like a creature like it's the best I have to admit this with with this I'd probably end up with horns you know what they you would make a really good like a sort of a demon devil or like a like a um what like a Sader with Little Goat legs y uh your little goat legs your beard and your little goat legs oh Sean come on really I can't convince you no I I could go for the horn sty all right well we'll get you cu the hair the hair team has nothing on me they're not going to be able to do anything I'll tell you what people love making those wigs though you look at all those bald actors out there who constantly have different hairstyles you wonder how that happens it's just an easy pet to work with that is true yeah well we know you got to get going we really appreciate it thank you much got it now I've got to talk to a few of the people in the room and they're all saying they don't add Li anything it's all coming straight from you no that's not true everybody's very F they're saying you're the brilliant one with all the all the funny L that's a lie that's a lie no every Everybody in the cast is uh incredibly funny and Incredibly talented and they know their characters really well so and that's the greatest part of the process is when these people become real and they sort of dictate how the scripts go you know I'm thinking about what could happen in season in a season 3 and already I'm just kind of like well what would this character want to do and it kind of writes when you do your job correctly these characters kind of talk to you it's a great thing so I'm I'm hearing a little bit about season two and and time travels involved is Janet the new Doctor Who there's a lot of Doctor Who in the show the the relationship of Stan and Eevee is the relationship of the doctor and His companion it's there's a lot of Doctor Who in the show and I could only dream to be as brilliant as Steven Moffett but uh there's there's a little bit of time travel to get Janet ends season 1 in a jam she's about to be burned at the stake in 1692 it was a I painted myself into a corner I'm not going to lie uh I did get out of it but uh I'm not saying I'm not saying she doesn't get burned at the stake I'm saying that that might not be the only time they try to burger at the stick so so she might have different lives like a nine Live Well if it happens if it happens and then you go back before it you could prevent it from happening but that doesn't mean you stopped it from happening the first time okay so now she's Doctor Who with a little bit of inception and a little bit of Catwoman's a lot exactly there's a lot of inception that was not my intention it is I painted myself in no corner so so I keep hearing you saying you're you relate Stanis a lot of your dad so so is all what was it growing up with a guy like Stan horrifying there's a reason I like horror movies they were in Escape that's hysterical I I I know all dads can be intimidating and Stu and he is just the character is fantastic he's well I'm I'm very blessed in that my dad uh I'm still with with us and uh incredibly funny guy really sarcastic and I mean he most of the stuff that you hear Stan say that you remember is just stuff I've heard my dad say you know don't crap an apple stuff like it's all stuff from my dad dad and uh um growing up around that it was like I just thought everybody's dad was like that and then you get out in the world and they're like oh no not at all uh but writing him is really fun because to put him in this heightened reality but keep him so grounded that's the great part about the show so each season are we going to get a bigger budget and bigger budget and next thing you know they are going to be talking to to green screens and Tennis walls I don't ever want to go to green screens and tennis balls not that I don't love them when they're done well but I like to keep things down and dirty lowbudget and practical I think that for comedy that's better uh I like the scares better that way and um I think for our reality that's the best version of it well we really love the show we appreciate you coming out and talking to us continued success a lot my pleasure [Music]
