Guardians of the Galaxy David Bautista Exclusive Interview

[MUSIC PLAYING] We're here with Dave Bautista with Guardians of the Galaxy. And wow, it's great to meet you. Thanks for having me here. Making me a very cool mom, I have to say. OK, cool. I was fascinated, knowing that I was coming to see you here today. Great in the film, the Drax was-- you brought him to life, and you humanized him. There was this really-- the sensitivity, the nuances that came through.

Did you find it more challenging than some of the projects that you've worked on before? Oh, yeah, for sure. I mean, that's what made him so interesting, is he was really kind of multi-layered, and really-- I wanted that opportunity to be able to show kind of my range as an actor. It was hard with Drax because it was a challenging role to play, but at the same time, it was easy because he does have that-- he's such an emotional roller coaster.

So it gave me the opportunity. But honestly, James Gunn, the director, he made it pretty easy. He made it pretty easy. He always made me feel kind of comfortable and relaxed. And he had such a clear vision of what he wanted out of the characters and out of the film in general that he made it pretty easy. There's great chemistry with the entire cast.

There's a synergy that bounced off the screen. But I also noticed this great chemistry with Chris Pratt. Did you know each other before that? I had not met him until our first screen test. I had gone in for my first makeup screen test, and Chris was there that day as well. And they told me they wanted me to wait around so that they wanted to do a screen test with both of us together to see if we had any chemistry.

And kind of right off the bat, I clicked with Chris. It was like even before we got on a film together. I was just talking to him, and we had similarities and backgrounds and stuff. We'd both come from an amateur wrestling background. So it left us a lot to talk about, and I just clicked with him right off the bat. -Well, it showed. And you mentioned the makeup.

Was that also tough to have to-- -Yeah. It wasn't too bad. It wasn't too bad sitting there for the application. Only thing that was rough about it was sometimes when we did it three days in a row, it was like, OK, it's starting to get a little-- but four days in a row, it's starting to get-- five, oh, man, this is really uncomfortable. But six days in a row was-- I think six days in a row was kind of my limit, where it's like everything just-- my skin was a little bit more tender, and it was a little bit-- people poking and prodding at me.

It just became a little bit more-- but really, there wasn't too many of those six-day weeks. did happen, but it was kind of three, four, six, eight weeks in a five-month period, so it wasn't that bad. But yeah, it was okay. I really don't have any complaints. I heard you have, at one point, you had a lunchbox collection? Yeah, no, I still do. Have you added guardians?

Yeah, actually, as a gift, as a wrap gift, James Gunn had a Guardians of the Galaxy Drax lunchbox made up for me. That was my wrap gift. Any teasers for 2 on what we're going to see from Drax? A new layer? I hope so. I really hope so. I can't imagine. I haven't seen the film. Obviously it hasn't come out yet, so we don't know how it's going to do. Everybody has high hopes for it, including me, hoping for a sequel.

I couldn't imagine it not doing well enough to have a sequel. I think it's gonna be, I may be biased, I think it's gonna be the biggest movie of the year. I think we're gonna roll right into a sequel, which I hope. - I think that you will. Thanks for taking the time. - Thank you. [BLANK_AUDIO]
