"Mama", the Guillermo del Toro-produced thriller could be getting a sequel. The film has grossed $69 million in the United States and, so far, $20 million internationally. Those earnings, coupled with fair reviews, make the film a contender for a follow up.
"We think there's potential for a Mama franchise. We'd like to do another one. But those conversations are in the early stages. Mama is the first of this type of model that we've had enormous success with so there are more opportunities for this kind of film", said Universal Pictures' President of International Productions David Kosse.
"Mama" is a film that is English-Language, but a foreign made, co-production, which is the model is he referring to. There is no word on any storylines as of yet.
