Sylvester Stallone to Reprise Role in Cliffhanger Sequel

Sylvester Stallone is set to star in a "Cliffhanger" sequel. The 1993 original starred Stallone as search and rescue climber Gabe Walker.

"Growing up with the biggest action films of the '80s and '90s, working on many of them myself,  ‘Cliffhanger' was by far one of my favorite spectacles," said director Ric Roman Waugh. "To be at the helm of the next chapter, scaling the Italian Alps with the legend himself, Sylvester Stallone, is a dream come true. It's going to be a great challenge and blast taking this franchise to new heights, a responsibility I don't take lightly."

Producer Neal H. Moritz also commented on the news, saying, "I'll never forget the thrill I felt watching Sylvester Stallone in ‘Cliffhanger.' I am incredibly excited to be working with him and Ric Waugh to continue the story of Gabe Walker and introduce this iconic story to a new generation of filmgoers around the world."

In the film, Gabe Walker joins forces with a group of criminals to retrieve stolen cash hidden in the mountains. However, their mission takes a dangerous turn and Gabe is forced to battle not only the harsh weather conditions but also his treacherous companions who have turned against him.

The film, directed by Renny Harlin, features an ensemble cast including Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow, Michael Rooker, and Janine Turner. It was a critical and commercial triumph, earning over $250 million worldwide and garnering acclaim for its thrilling action sequences and captivating storyline.

Stallone currently stars in Paramount's "Tulsa King" and will be seen in the upcoming  "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" due out this week and "The Expendables 4", due out this fall.
