2024 Oscar Winners: Oppenheimer Dominates, Emma Stone's Surprise Win, and More Highlights

The 96th Annual Academy Awards took place last night at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, with comedian and late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel reprising his role as the Oscars host for the second consecutive year and the fourth time overall.

"Oppenheimer" stole the spotlight, securing an impressive 13 nominations and clinching victories in key categories such as best director, best actor, and best picture.

The other half of the blockbuster Barbenheimer duo, "Barbie," received eight nominations but only managed to secure one win on Sunday night, claiming the prize for best song.

Standout winners at the awards included "Poor Things," honored for achievements in hair and makeup, production design, and costume design. Cillian Murphy also continued his winning streak, securing the Best Actor award for his role in "Oppenheimer" after triumphing at the 2024 Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

In a surprising turn of events, Emma Stone won best actress for her role in "Poor Things," surpassing expectations and outshining Lily Gladstone, the first Native American nominated for best actress for her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon."
