Sony's Uncharted movie adaptation, long plagued by delays and setbacks exacerbated by the pandemic, finally hit screens two years ago, marking a milestone for fans of the beloved video game series by Naughty Dog. But what about the eagerly anticipated sequel? At the 2024 CineEurope trade show, Steven O'Dell, Sony Pictures' president of international distribution, provided a reassuring update: Uncharted 2 remains firmly in development.
Details on the sequel are sparse, but the confirmation of its ongoing progress is sure to excite enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the next installment. The first film introduced Tom Holland as the resourceful Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his seasoned mentor, Victor "Sully" Sullivan. Set against the backdrop of a high-stakes treasure hunt, the story weaves together elements of adventure, mystery, and the pursuit of an elusive fortune lost centuries ago.
Wahlberg, reflecting on the sequel, hinted at a promising future, noting the script's evolution and the significance of Sully's iconic mustache, a detail cherished by fans.
"I've heard lots of different ideas. I know somebody's written a script, and they're still working on it, and it would consist of having the mustache the whole entire time. Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the mustache. He added, "When I finally got the mustache, people really appreciated it. And it was a nice tag to the end of that film. So if we can make it better than the first, you know, I'd be open to it, but I only know as much as you do right now."
With the groundwork laid in the first film, expectations are high for Uncharted 2 to build upon its predecessor's success, promising even more thrilling escapades and perhaps answers to lingering mysteries.
