Liam Payne, a former member of the iconic British boy band One Direction, has tragically passed away at the age of 31. Payne died after falling from the third floor of a hotel located on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, according to local police reports.
The incident occurred when police responded to an emergency call citing "an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs and alcohol." Paramedics confirmed his death after he was found in an interior patio of the hotel.
Payne first rose to fame as a One Direction member, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan. Formed in 2010 after the members appeared on the UK's X Factor, their success led to massive global fame, with multiple chart-topping hits and sold-out tours. In 2015, the group announced a hiatus, allowing each member to pursue solo careers.
Payne released his debut solo album, LP1, in 2019 and followed up with Teardrops in March 2024. Outside of his music career, he had a son, born in 2017, with singer Cheryl Cole, a former member of the group Girls Aloud
