2025 Academy Award Nominations Complete List

The 97th Academy Awards nominations were announced on Thursday, with "Emilia Pérez," "The Brutalist," and "Wicked" leading the pack. "Emilia Pérez," a musical, led the nominations with 13, followed by "The Brutalist" and "Wicked," each with 10. The announcement, made by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott, came after Academy leadership acknowledged the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. "Emilia Pérez" has been both celebrated and criticized, especially for its representation of the transgender community and Selena Gomez's Spanish dialogue. Despite controversy, the film garnered four Golden Globe wins and became the highest-nominated non-English language film in Oscar history.

"The Brutalist," directed by Brady Corbet, tells the story of Hungarian refugees in the U.S. post-WWII and stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones. The film faced backlash for using artificial intelligence in its dialect, though Corbet defended the choice. Meanwhile, "Wicked," directed by Jon M. Chu, received widespread recognition with nominations for Best Picture and individual honors for stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the latter being a first-time nominee. This marks the first time since 1968 that two musicals-"Emilia Pérez" and "Wicked"-have been nominated for Best Picture. The acting categories were notably dominated by 13 first-time nominees, including Kieran Culkin, Demi Moore, and Zoe Saldaña. 

Conan O'Brien will host the March 2 ceremony on ABC.
