The Academy reveals a competitive awards race as first-time nominees and major contenders dominate the 2026 Oscars

Sinners has emerged as the most-nominated film of the 2026 Academy Awards, earning a record 16 nods. The horror drama, set in 1930s Mississippi, secured major nominations including best picture, directing, and original screenplay. Star Michael B. Jordan received his first-ever acting nomination for his dual role as twins Smoke and Stack, while co-stars Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku were also recognized.

First-time acting nominees this year also include Jacob Elordi for Frankenstein, Teyana Taylor for One Battle After Another, and several performers from the Norwegian drama Sentimental Value, including Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Renate Reinsve, and Stellan Skarsgård.

One Battle After Another followed closely behind with 13 nominations, including best picture and a best actor nod for Leonardo DiCaprio. Timothée Chalamet earned his second consecutive best actor nomination for Marty Supreme, after being recognized last year for A Complete Unknown.

The 2026 Academy Awards will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and air Sunday, March 15, at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on ABC, with streaming available on Hulu.
