Paul Thomas Anderson’s sweeping drama leads the 2026 Oscars with six total wins
The 98th Academy Awards celebrated a major night for "One Battle After Another", which took home the Oscar for Best Picture along with five additional awards. Paul Thomas Anderson earned his first Academy Award for both Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, while Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor for the film. The movie also claimed honors for Best Film Editing for Andy Jurgensen and the newly introduced Best Casting category, awarded to Cassandra Kulukundis. Meanwhile, "Sinners" secured four wins, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan and Best Original Screenplay for director Ryan Coogler. The film also won Oscars for Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson) and Best Cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw), who became the first woman to win in that category.
Other notable winners included Jessie Buckley, who won Best Actress for "Hamnet", and Amy Madigan, who took home Best Supporting Actress for "Weapons". "KPop Demon Hunters" won Best Animated Feature, and its track "Golden" became the first K-pop song to win Best Original Song. "Frankenstein" collected three craft awards for costume design, makeup and hairstyling, and production design. Hosted by Conan O'Brien for the second year, the ceremony aired live on ABC and Hulu from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and featured star-studded presenters, special reunions, and tributes honoring beloved Hollywood figures who passed away during the past year.
