Ambulance Eiza González Interview

Hi, nice to meet you. So, what is with you and car chases? I don't know. Good question, right? It's consistent. At least I'm a consistent person, you know? But we don't want you to be typecast, do we? No, because I don't think that the cars make me typecast. I think it's just that each character is quite different, too. I wouldn't say that Baby Driver has anything to do in Darling, anything to do with Cam, or Hobbs and Shaw.

They're quite different, all of them. So, I just love, I think that I have a natural gravitas towards action. I really like it. But I also feel like the last few years my choices have been quite different. Especially moving forward, they're very different. So, you know, I'm enjoying it. What was it like working in an ambulance in such a small space with three guys and cameras and everything else, and the streets of LA?

Well, you know, if the three guys that you're in could contain space are Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul and Michael Bay, you're sort of doing well, you know? I wasn't like, "Ugh, gotta see these guys again." You know, but they're actually incredible team players. Michael's one of the best action directors on planet Earth. Jake and Yahya are some of the best actors out there.

And it just elevates you as an actress. And it was cool, because it was an intimate process. We were seeing face-to-face choices. And it was very important to really play with the performance, because it's what really makes the movie, because the movie is sort of ongoing on the same subject. So the dynamics between the characters are quite important.

So it was fun. She's quite a badass. So are you like her in real life, or are you very different? I'm tough. I'm a tough cookie, for sure. Because I grew up with an older brother who's like 12 years older than me, so I grew up with men. But I can take a tough cookie like Michael, for sure. But I love that Cam's tough because she's vulnerable. She's a real girl.

She's not trying to be tough just to be tough. She's like a real, vulnerable, transparent human being. And I think that's the type of female characters we need to see on screen on action films. Not a love interest or a woman following the guys or not there for the male gaze. She's a paramedic. She's completely capable and has agency and knows what she's doing.

And that's powerful. So you trained with RNs and paramedics or EMTs for this. What was that like for you, and what did you learn? It was very educating, for sure. It was very eye-opening as well. Not only the technicalities, but how fully dedicated their lives are to us. And I'm so honored to be playing a first responder, a paramedic, on this film.

They live and breathe for others. And that's something that we should always feel very, very grateful. Thank them on a daily basis. They really sacrifice their lives for us. They're real-life superheroes. Yes, they are. Thank you so much for your time tonight. I'm looking forward to the movie. Thank you so much.
