Fast and Furious Leaves Box Office Records in The Dust
The latest installment of "the Fast and The Furious" franchise, "Fast and Furious", has a record breaking opening weekend. The film brought in $72 million, far exceeding the amount that many thought the film would bank.

"2 Fast 2 Furious", the second installment, opened with $50 million and was the previous record holder for the franchise.

"Fast and Furious" was up against "Adventureland" which brought in only $6 million for its opening weekend.  Both films had wide releases, but "Fast and Furious" earned a staggering $20,950 per screen average.
