"Akira", the cult anime hit, is going to be made into a live action film. Warner Bros. will be releasing the project.
There is no word on what the budget will be for the film, but an original budget had been set at between $90 and $100 million. The studios will be shopping around for two leading men. Garrett Hedlund is rumored to be one of the choices for the lead.
While the film has been in development for some time, there have been many obstacles in the way of getting it off the ground, including losing its director. Jaume Collet-Serra has filled that position.
Warner Bros. is looking to begin production late February/early March.
