This week, the gaming world welcomes back its greatest heroine, Lara Croft, of Tome Raider fame, and with it also comes the news that Crystal Dynamics, the game producers, and GK Films are looking at rebooting movie franchise also.
Head of the studio at Crystal Dynamics, Darrell Gallagher, said of working with GK Films, "They are working from this new take that we've given them, It's a good partnership. We're seeing the challenges through the same lens. It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn't want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old 'Tomb Raider' films."
Those two old "Tome Raider" films stared Angelina Jolie and grossed almost half a billion dollars at the worldwide box-office.
Noah Hughes, the Creative Director for Crystal Dynamics, spoke about the Lara Croft character, "Looking at Lara as a character, she was still going to be an intellectual heroine, a brilliant archaeologist, but more athletic, more competent in traversal and puzzle-solving and combat, She really embodies adventure. She's an expression of all the things that are exciting and fun about going on epic adventures. There's an X factor that no one can explain but is universal in design. She's a great character to work with."
The guessing games are sure to start about who will play the leading role, as filling Jolie's boots is going to take some doing.
