The companies also announced that a stand alone spin-off film, titled "Rogue One", will begin filming this summer. It is slated for a December 16, 2016 release.
"Rogue One" be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, along with John Knoll. Chris Weitz wrote the script. There are no plot details available as of yet.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be released December 18 and will be accompanied by several Star Wars themed attractions throughout Disney parks.
